Blue Lake Classic Date
I read on Doug’s forum Blue Lake Classic will be on July 1st.
Minnesota fishing opener could be one week early
Sounds great!
I’m sure the DNR is going to need some extra money in their budget to pull it off.
What about the governors fishing opener scheduled for May 12th?
Never mind - probably won’t happen.
The end of offsite catch & release bass tournaments?

Not sure I’m against the essence of this proposal, just the fact that they continue to regulate tournament fisherman so strongly. I don’t like the idea of keeping the fish in a livewell any longer than you have to especially in hot weather. I see they have to make the whole thing compelling by putting invasive species in the text. Invasive species is about money, at some point you will see a surcharge on our licenses, boat registrations and who knows what else for invasive species.
Read the article and decide for your self.

Official Meeting announcement from Kevin G.
Hey Guys
We will have our club meeting on march 14th @630p At Amelias on FIRST
AVE. We will have the place to ourselves! This way we can have a couple
of drinks while we hammer out next years lakes and dates. There has been a
few ideas proposed that we can discuss at the meeting. If you have some
ideas for next years format, rule changes, blast off, etc, email me what
you would like to add to the agenda. If everyone could email me back to
acknowledge you got this email and if you can make the meeting, that would
be great! If you already know you can’t make the meeting, please email me 7
or 8 lake choices, and the summer dates you CAN NOT make. MAY-SEPT. Right
now as per last years request, we are probably going to move forward with
best 4 of 7 compared to last years best 3 of 5.
As you can see the email list is only about half of the people that we
actually had last year, please spread the word!!
Look forward to seeing you guys,
Kevin (KVD)

Bucketmouth Meeting March 14th
I ran into Kevin G. he said meeting is on March 14th - sounds like 7 lakes same format as last year - I’m in but will be out of town for the meeting.
My lakes would be pokegama, blue, ely, trout, wabana, shallow and deer.
I’d like to fish most of the Ultimate Angler tournaments so those dates would conflict.
Top 10 do’s & don’ts
i just read a top 10 do’s & don’ts on another blog, so here’s mine.
1. have good gear - find rod’s and reels you like and then expand on them - i run only daiwa spinning reels and quantum baitcasters. i’m preferring my 7 foot stuff as i get older.
2. dress right - layers, good rain gear, sunscreen - good glasses - don’t spend the money on oakleys, you can get some of the best polarized made for under $40.
3. pick a few lakes and be an expert at them.
4. find 3 techniques that work and stick with them - jigs, jig worms, texas rigs, drop shot - covers most lakes and conditions.
5. find a couple of colors that work and stick with it - black and blue, green pumpkin and some brown stuff cover most lakes in this area.
6. big water can be intimidating - pick a lake on a chain with a good population, or a section of a lake and be the expert on that.
7. prefish early and often - i prefish more now than i used to - used to just go the week before, now i go 3-4 even 5 weeks before and find fish (or not) and then i look for secondary patterns.
8. fish as a non-boater in tournaments not to find spots but to see what successful anglers are doing - i’ve seen the same tactics and habits from most successful anglers.
9. be polite, don’t make enemies by fishing other guys patterns - if it’s a coincidence, fine - but i’ve seen too many guys fish as non-boaters, get a boat and then act like every spot you showed them belongs to them. if you show respect for others hard work, they may help you in the long run by sharing info.
10. never stop learing - i learn more things by fun fishing than i ever would by prefishing. i spend hours on some lakes just looking for points and steep drops and patches of deep weeds.
For all of you that have put your boats away…
Pokegama Lake - 5.82 lbs - 230pm on Sunday 10/2/11
